Odisha Sahitya Akademi ,the institution of letters solemnly endeavours with assiduous effort to promote highly literary activities in the state and is actively participating in those functions.Being a distinct literary function of Odia literature , especially a celebration of folklore traditions and culture that reflects in literature Kaakar has acquired a distinguished place in the state.

Kaakar the literature festival of Nabarangpur was celebrated from 12th January,2019 to 13th January 2019. This time it was celebrated at three places of stunning cultural heritage which have immense historical and astheitic importance. The educational program was held at ‘Saheed Minar’ by the river Turi at Papadahandi which stands as the glorious witness to the Quit India Movement and the sacrifice of the bravehearts, the grand function was celebrated at Shree Nilakantheswar Temple which was built more than a millennium years ago . The next day it was the Charaka Van where the poets have gathered to recite a poetry of their creation. Needless to mention the poets and their families paid a memorable visit to the nearby tourist places .

Educational Programme :

On the eve of gala kaakar literary festival 2018,at Papadahandi, Nabarangpur, an educational programme comprising speech, quiz and poetry was conducted at Shaheed Stambha for unfolding the hidden talent of school and college going students.


An inspiring seminar was conducted in the premises of Nilakantheswar temple with the elite panel to discuss vividly on Gitimaya adibasi lokasahitya, sahityare pujyapuja Aou darshan, parjyatan Sahitya Aou ama pratibandhata And geetmara utstav.

Discussion on the “Gitamaya adibasi lokasahitya” focused on folktales and songs of tribals for encouraging the conservation and transition of those unheard voices.

It was presided by Sana Sahu and the participants were Chandradhwaj Majhi,Jemamani Bisoyi,Laxman Mandra, Saiman Bidika ,Ranjan Mahuria and Dr Munindra Mahalik and Kedareswar Pattnaik.

Discussion on sahityare pujyapuja Aou darshan brought into notice the work and glory of many connoisseurs of Oriya literature.

It was presided by Sudhiraj Raut and participants were Dr Bijay Mishra,Dr Surendranath Dash, Dr Tapan Padhi, Bhagirathi Behera, Kapila mohanty,Tutubabu Pattnaik ,Ashutosh Mallick

Discussion on Parjyatan Sahitya Aou ama pratibandhata emphasized on the different and eloquent forms of literature from poetry to prose and on the possibility of another form, the play form.

It was presided by Dr Manoj Kishore Nayak and participants were Dr Rajendra Behera,Bijay Choudhury, Narayan Panda,Gopal maharana,Chintamani Behera, Parikshita Sahu.

Discussion on the geetmara utstav highlighted the folklore, giving it a due tribute.

It was presided by Durgaprasad Padhi and participants were Nabakishore Panda, Bhaskar Samantara, Sabyasachi Bisoyi and folk singers .

The Grand Evening :

Inauguration of ‘Ama gaon ama Sahitya’ ceremony was done with stellar personality of our current politics,
Sri Ramesh Chandra Majhi,
the honourable cabinet minister
for ST and SC development,
minorities and backward classes welfare, and panchayatraj department odisha, along with the reputed MLA,
sri Manohar Randhari.

The dias was presided by the eminent member of odisha sahitya academy,
sri Bulu Hota, and he was accompanied by sushant Kumar Nayak, another prolific personality of odisha sahitya academy.
The illustrious personalities like Ramprasad patro, Jagannath Mohapatra were the cynosures.

Sri Parikhita Sethi, the amicable and the renowned subcollector was there for rendering all the motivation.

The ambition of all the dignitaries was for the holistic development of our own literature.

Book inauguration:

Book inauguration ceremony witnessed a good number of tyros as well as established writers and poets. With all grandeur, the books were brought to light.

Awards & Felicitations:

Kakaar the litfest is inspiring the young and budding litterateur to contribute more in the field of literature and award them in the grand evening of the festival.Kaakar likes to be beholden by felicitating the eminent personalities .
Several awards were bestowed upon deserving personalities for their immense contribution towards translation, tourism literature, lokasahitya and folklore. A significant award like yuva pratibha was also conferred.

The awardee are as follows.

Translation : Mrs Niharika Mallick
Tourism : Mr Dilip Das
Folk literature : Mr Sabyasachi Bisoyi
Poetry : Mr Chatur Gahir

Sammaan for yuva kabi, sahitya, byaktitwa and kaakar were conferred through felicitations.

The 13th of January 2019 saw the renowned poets and blooming poets from all parts of odisha gather excitedly at Charakabana showcasing the excellence of their work in an electric atmosphere of creativity . The poems were of a superlative quality with all the performers showing nerves of steel, wonderful theatricality and a real command of their Poems. All the poets were felicitated at the end of their recitation with a certificate and being wrapped a shawl around the shoulder concerned poet.

And finally ,
The festival brings together a diverse mix of the state’s greatest thinkers, humanitarians, politicians,publishers and entertainers at one stage to champion the freedom to express, celebrate the indigenous culture and literature of the very land and engage in thoughtful debate and dialogues.
Like every year this time as well Kaakar has been tagged as the most fabulous literary love-fest in the state .
